Although new, if the typewriter is turned off, it takes awhile before the type quality is good. For some reason, it takes a while to reset before the typing is crisp ... it appears as if the new ribbon is out, even though it isn't until you type for a period of time. Then the quality becomes good.

Typing on this typewriter is not sharp and not all of the lettering shows. It's like it does not strike the roller all the way. Works better with Prestige wheel.

I learned to type on my older sister's manual typewriter in the 1950s. Once I couldi afford my own, I bought a Brother. (I used an IBM Selectric at work.# I've owned probably a dozen different types of Brother typewriters over he decades, and have never been disappointed by any of them.
This Brother ML-300 is great. Sometimes a typewriter is just more efficient than a computer #I first bought a computer in 1982#, and this Brother has made so many things faster and easier. It's lightweight, quiet, extremely user-friendly, and has an easy, pleasant touch. The print looks nice and doesn't smear. And it's small enough to fit on one of my bookshelves.
If you're looking for an everyday typewriter #and I do use mine every day), this one is excellent. As for getting your money's worth? I typically get six or eight years out of an inexpensive Brother typewriter, and I haul mine around with me, hammer on it, have a bad habit of leaving it on the floor, and otherwise really use it, so paying less than two hundred dollars for something I prefer to my fourteen hundred dollar computer, I figure I'm getting a good deal.
Note: I buy my supplies at Office Depot because they keep up on their stock. I managed to get a typewriter two days before a holiday, and have never had any trouble finding ribbons, correction tape, or printwheels.
